Chess + Boxing = Chessboxing

One very unique form of Chess that is gaining popularity is actually called Chess Boxing. This innovative hybrid sport actually takes the game of Chess and blends it with the sport of Boxing, having the players compete against each other in alternating rounds. The sport was invented by French artist and filmmaker Enki Bilal in one of his comic book Froid Équateur in 1992. The first real event of chess-boxing was organized by Dutch artist Iepe Rubingh in 2003. Chess boxing is a fast growing sport, with large followings in Berlin and London, where most events take place

Players for the game must both be talented boxers and Chess players, for the game moves quickly from one round to the other. A full match consists of eleven rounds: six rounds of chess, each four minutes long, and five rounds of boxing, each three minutes long (four minutes under amateur rules). Only one minute is granted between the rounds, forcing all of the players to remain in top condition, both physically and mentally alert. Rules of fast chess are used, and a competitor only has a total of twelve minutes to use for all his chess moves. Player's chess time is measured using a chess clock. While this version of Chess is rare, it can be exciting to watch and even to play for players who feel up to the challenge!
